What To Wear for Halloween
Published October 19, 2012 on Travora.com || Forget women in binders. This Halloween get creative and try one of our favorite travel-related costumes. From DIY get-ups to dog and baby outfits, Travora weighs in on what to wear for Halloween.
Snow Globe: Flaunt your favorite travel spot with a do-it-yourself snow globe costume. Use clear acetate to make the globe, hang bits of foam inside for the snow, and build a base with props that symbolize your featured destination. Top it all off with a thematic costume and you’re good to go. Our favorite is this Hawaii version.
Botched Jesus Painting Restoration: The world was shocked to see the results of an elderly church parishioner’s restoration attempt gone wrong on Ecce Homo, a 19th century Spanish fresco portraying Jesus Christ. Crafty costumers can turn this artistic fiasco into a funny Halloween get-up. Check out this example.
London 2012 Memory: The flame of the London Olympics may be extinguished, but the Summer Games are fodder for some excellent costume ideas. Been hitting the gym? Dress up like Ryan Lochte (pink speedo and Prince Harry sidekick costume optional). Prefer to go the comfy route? Don some warm-ups, pop a scrunchie in your hair, and practice your best scowl—just be forewarned that McKayla still won’t be impressed.
Photobombing Stingray: Staged or not, talk about a vacation photo to remember. Grab three friends and draw straws for who gets to (or has to?) be the stingray. If you can’t recruit friends to join in, you can always dress up like a stingray and recreate this moment on unsuspecting trick-or-treaters.
Handsy TSA Agent and X-ray Airport Security Machine View: Couples, here’s your chance to get away with PDA in the name of Halloween. Most travelers have gotten used to airport security measures that call for pat-downs and X-ray photos, but that doesn’t mean you can’t costumize people’s fear of overeager agents and scandalous photos.
Space Traveler: Once relegated to Sci-Fi and kids’ pipe dreams, space travel is quickly becoming a reality. Suit up as Felix Baumgartner, who space jumped 120,000 feet on a record-breaking skydive, or as one of the lucky (and likely very wealthy) adventurers scheduled to blast off on Virgin Galactic’s space ship.
Travel Size Products (For the Little Ones): Those tiny travel bottles of shampoo and shaving cream are pretty cute, just like your baby, So instead of taking the standard crayon/pumpkin/animal approach to Halloween, escalate the preciousness by dressing your child up as a carry-on friendly three-ounce product.
Boo (For Your Dog): No, don’t add “Boo Child” on the end of this costume. Take a cue from Boo, “the world’s cutest dog,” and dress up your pup like a frequent flyer.
